The Secret Thought Stopping Trick

Today I will reveal one of my most powerful tricks or life tools to you. They say a magician should never reveal their tricks… its a good thing I’m not a magician ‘eh!

Girl, this life tool is a superpower that we all have but sadly most never use. All of the super successful people I have ever met (from the amazing Tony Robbins to awe-inspiring Olympic swimmers) all use this tool to achieve greatness.

Applying this trick to weight loss and every other part of your life will change it beyond your wildest dreams.

I call it ‘Thought Stopping’. I remember reading about it when I was studying psychology at uni. Sadly I was young and didn’t think much of it. I wish I had as it took me nearly 20 years to realise its power, 20 years that I missed out on being my best. Luckily I know it now, and use it many times a day, every day.

First things first, you can’t control those impulse thoughts. They come from your primal brain (called Lizard brain… a strange name I know!) My son gets excited thinking that he has a lizard in his brain! You cant control these SO STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP FOR HAVING THEM!

So many ladies come to me in despair. They are cross at themselves for having ‘bad’ thoughts. They are cross because they cant control them. Well i’m telling you right now girl, you cant control them!  How’s that for a relief.  Its not your fault that you think of chocolate cake all the time!

What you can do is control what you do with them.

Here’s what you need to do.  Practise makes perfect, and it takes time to get really good at this.  But trust me… it’s worth it.

So, the Lizard fires up and a thought pops into your head.

What you need to do is identify the thought – catch the thought.

Now take a deep breath and chose…

You have three options… how cool, only three!

  1. Action the thought as it is
  2. Modify the thought then action it
  3. Ignore the thought and do nothing

The trick here is to catch the thought then make an informed decision on what to do.

Here’s an example.

Thought:  Eat chocolate cake.

Catch the thought.

Take a deep breath.


  1. Action: You can eat the cake (is it your day off?  Are you breaking your plan?  Is it really worth it?)
  2. Modify: Choose to eat a treat that IS on your system (protein snack like the yummy Cinnamon Dream)
  3. Ignore: Be strong, remember your ‘Weight Loss Why’ and walk away.  Your ‘Why’ must be more compelling than eating the cake.  is eating the cake more important than why you want to lose weight?  NO WAY… it’s only a silly cake… and you wont remember what it tastes like 30 seconds after eating it anyway!

You can apply ‘Thought Stopping’ to any thought you have.  Cross at the kids… you have 3 options.  A problem at work?  You have three options.  While you cant control your primal brain thoughts, you can control your actions, that’s what being human is all about.

So there you have it… a really powerful tool.  Remember to practise it regularly, it will get easier and easier as it becomes a habit.  You will start to make better decisions and things in your life will change accordingly.  Amazing.

… and here’s the kicker… the more you practise this trick, the less bad thoughts you will have.  The brain truly is amazing.

    Hi Kaz…..My weight loss why is ‘to feel confident in my body’. At the moment I’m very self conscious of how I look. I want to look at other in shape ladies and think ‘yep’ I look that good too!’ I’m feeling confident you can help me achieve this.
