Does stress make you fat?  Here are 5 Tips To Reduce Stress.

Hi, it’s Kaz here from KAZ TV and its Weight Loss Wednesday, and this is a question I get asked all the time "Does stress make you fat?"

Everybody stresses.  It’s our body’s natural response to any event; whether it’s a pleasurable event like a kiss, or one that’s not so pleasant like a fight.  

In small doses stress is great because it can give us a helpful boost when we need to be productive, but too much stress can be making you fat. Unfortunately our bodies are programmed to put on weight when we’re under stress.

Here’s how it happens… a stressful event occurs which triggers an alarm in our mind.  This triggers a switch and it releases hormones, like cortisol (which tells the body to store fat) and adrenaline.  These cause sugar and carb cravings,  your blood sugar level rises which tells your body to store fat.  NASTY!

For us girls that’s on our tummy and our bottom and our thighs, and that’s just no good.

We want to lose weight not store fat.

So here are my 5 tips to reduce stress in your life, and increase your fat burn.

1… Eat Breakfast. Surprisingly research is showing that people who eat breakfast, particularly a high protein breakfast, are less depressed and are more likely to be emotionally stable.
2… Go For A Walk and shake off those bad feelings. The boost in your endorphins will counteract the effects of the cortisol.

3… Eat More Often. If you eat every two to three hours, including a good protein serve, it will keep your insulin levels stable and it will help you burn more fat.

4… Unplug. Turn off your smart phone, switch off the computer, turn off the TV and just have a relaxed quiet time. Grab a book and chill out.

5… Sometimes We Just Have To Learn To Say No. We’re all busy moms and we get pulled from here to there. Asked to volunteer, asked to help out, they’re all busy causes, but sometimes we have to learn to say no and keep that stress low.

When you’re starting to feel a bit stressed out, think about one of these 5 tips to reduce stress and chill out.

    So right Kaz. I have a stressful job so go for walks at lunch time. Ive even been known to join a conference call from my mobile while walking (and the rest of the team are in the office!)
